Holidays and Trip reviews

When doing a road trip it is worth stopping at the first rest area upon entering each state. They are normally called Welcome Centers . The staff are very helpful and have a wealth of knowledge regarding activities, transport, accommodation etc. available. There is also free coffee!!!

eg. When we stayed at the NRB in New Orleans the staff at the Welcome Center advised us that we could park our car for $5.00 for the day and travel to the French Quarter by free ferry. This excellent information made our visit more relaxing and enjoyable without having the added pressure of finding expensive parking in an extremely busy area of the city. The ferry runs from 6am to 12 midnight.

Baltimore Review

A historic seaport, Baltimore’sbeautiful Inner Harbour is host to some fantastic old ships (including the USS Constellation) and should be the first stop for any visit to the city.   There are plenty of fantastic bars and restaurants which offer beautiful waterside views, in particular ‘Wit and Wisdom’ was excellent, serving ‘poshed up’ fast food like lobster …

Boston Suggestions

Boston is a great destination for a short city break, particularly if you have been living in the US for a while and you’re feeling a little homesick, as it has a very British feel to it. This isn’t just due to the British history all around you but also the buildings, the streets and the general layout of …

Skiing at Snowshoe Mountain – A Family Holiday We drove to Snowshoe on the 27th of December; setting off late morning. The drive took around 7 hours, but our street hadn’t yet been cleared of snow when we set off and only one lane of the highway was clear so it was a little slow …

How do you holiday in Hawaii cheaply and still have a good time? If you are Active Duty military (British) you are entitled to many of the benefits that the USA armed forces currently receive. Washinton panorama

Washington DC Review

The nation’s capital is only 4 or 5 hours drive from Virginia Beach so it’s a good place to go for your first holiday. There are many many hotels to choose from and everyone has different priorities, so it’s impossible to give a definitive recommendation. Basically have a look at a city map and choose …

A fun-packed family holiday in Florida St Augustine Our first stop and although touristy we really enjoyed it. Ate lunch in a great little Spanish bakery & sat …

If you are looking for a city break where you can just relax rather than dashing about everywhere, New Orleans is the place to go. Chincoteague, Eastern Shore Review

REVIEW #1: Sep 2014 We visited Chincoteague over a standard weekend, wanting somewhere relatively nearby to go and stay overnight and, as new arrivals in the US, to start our explorations of thecountry. This fits the bill prefectly. We left at lunchtime on Saturday and drove directly to Assateague to walk the wildlife refuge walks. These are well maintained and …
