Change in Policy for GYH(O) updated 1 October 2016

Terminal Travel

Reimbursement for travel to/from the airport and leave adress can be claimed as follows:

a. Where travel is made by rail, civil air, bus/coach or taxi, or a combination of these, reimbursement will be limited to the distance in miles x 25p (current Motor Mileage Allowance (MMA) UK Converted Leave Rate (CLR)) for each family member travelling. For example, where the Service person and 3 eligible immediate family members travel, the terminal travel entitlement will be capped at 4 times the MMA at UK CLR.

b. Where the terminal travel is made by private vehicle, including a privately hired vehicle, reimbursement will only be 1 x MMA at CLR (regardless of number of family members travelling) for the actual mileage between UK arrival airport and the qualifying address.

The rates, multiplied by the number of eligible immediate family members travelling, are intended to assist towards the cost of a standard economy return flight to the UK, from the country in which the Service person is assigned. The rates, which are subject to a 6 monthly review, are based on commercial flight costs, so are as likely to decrease as much as they are to increase.

Personnel booking private flights using the allowance are to ensure they fly out of and into the closest international airports to their Residence at Work address and their UK Leave address.

Applications to use a GYH(O) warrant are to be made via JPA prior to booking travel. The travel authorisation number from JPA will be required when reclaiming the cost of travel, up to the MOD allowance, which can be submitted after completion of the travel.
